" Prawdopodobnie w roku 287.według legendy był oficerem gwardii cesarskiej, którego za wyznawanie nauki Chrystusa umęczono, przywiązując go do słupa (drzewa) i przeszywając strzałami. Sebastian nie zginął jednak. Kobieta, która postanowiła go pochować, znalazła w nim cząstkę życia. Doprowadziła go do zdrowia. Gdy Sebastian wyzdrowiał, poszedł bezpośrednio do cesarza i zarzucił mu barbarzyństwo w stosunku do chrześcijan. Cesarz w przypływie gniewu kazał go ukamienować."
